How Great is God! (Malachi 4)

Malachi 4 begins like this:

“For behold the day is coming, burning, like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble…But for you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in it’s wings”

As i look over my writing on my thoughts from Malachi 3, i am assured of God’s message for me.  For the truth that He spoke through His prophet Malachi, Fear the Lord and do not be arrogant.  i am not above the depravity that can so easily overtake my carnal being, but God is for sure.  i am not wise, but God imparts the wisdom of fear of Him, the living sovereign God into me.  At the end of Malachi 4, God states through His prophet Malachi:

”that he will send Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.  And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”

The case for fearing my God, has never been greater, for in Him alone lies the power to change hearts and/or bring utter destruction.  For He is GOD, He is LORD, He is FATHER and He is completely sovereign.  He knows me, He knows my heart, the depth of it’s depravity and brokenness and He can change it, He can turn it, He is sovereign even when i am unbelieving.  Healthy fear brings clarity and purpose.  Healthy fear brings hope in hopelessness.  Healthy fear bridges a relationship that could easily be abused and neglected in my own ignorance and arrogance.  i pray that “the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in it’s wings” for me today and always, in God’s sovereignty my arrogance and depravity dissipate and fear moves me heavenward.
